10 Visual Height Comparison Charts You Will Actually Want to See

To make the comparisons easier to read, the default adult reference in these charts is 175 cm, or about 5 ft 9 in. Every image below was made with HowHeight's visual height comparison chart tool.

As of May 2026, the public height for the full Starship and Super Heavy stack is about 123 m, or 403 ft. The National Park Service lists the Statue of Liberty's total height at 305 ft 1 in, or about 92.99 m, measured from the ground to the tip of the torch.

That means Starship is about 30 m taller than the Statue of Liberty, and about 1.32 times as tall. In the chart, the guide line near the top of the Statue of Liberty lands around the upper section of the rocket, below the nose area; the remaining rocket height above that line is the extra height Starship has.

Guinness World Records lists Robert Wadlow, the tallest man ever recorded, at 2.72 m, or 8 ft 11.1 in. Chandra Bahadur Dangi, one of the shortest verified adult men, was recorded at 54.6 cm, or 21.5 in.

The height difference is 217.4 cm. Divide 272 cm by 54.6 cm and the ratio is about 4.98, so Robert Wadlow was almost exactly five times Chandra Bahadur Dangi's recorded height.

Coast redwoods are among the tallest known tree species on Earth, and very tall individuals can exceed 80 m. This chart uses a 70 m redwood example, which equals 7,000 cm.

Compared with a 175 cm adult man, 70 m is exactly 40 adult heights stacked head to toe. A single 175 cm adult would still be 68.25 m short of the top of the tree.

A standard basketball rim is 10 ft high, or 305 cm above the floor. Compared with a 175 cm adult man, the rim is 130 cm above his head.

That is why a hoop can look familiar from a distance but feel much higher when you stand below it. An adult can reach upward toward the rim, but the rim itself is still far above head height.

Measurement note: if a chart labels a full portable hoop structure around 410 cm, that usually means total structure height, not official rim height. For the playable basketball rim, use 305 cm.

The Eiffel Tower is commonly listed at 330 m including its antenna. UK Parliament lists Elizabeth Tower, the tower often casually called Big Ben's tower, at 96.3 m.

The difference is about 233.7 m. Divide 330 by 96.3 and the ratio is about 3.43, so the Eiffel Tower is a little more than 3.4 times the height of Elizabeth Tower.

Naming note: Big Ben is technically the bell, not the tower. The structure in the chart is Elizabeth Tower. For the Eiffel Tower, this comparison uses the 330 m height including the current antenna.

NOAA notes that Antarctic blue whales can reach up to about 110 ft in length, which is about 33.5 m. This number is body length, not standing height.

The adult person in the chart is only there to give a familiar sense of scale. The important point is that a blue whale should usually be compared by length, not by height.

An adult Tyrannosaurus rex is often described as about 4 to 6 m tall depending on how it is measured: roughly 4 m at the hips, and up to about 6 m if the head is raised. It lived in Late Cretaceous North America and was one of the most powerful land predators of its time.

A T. rex could reach about 12 to 13 m in body length and commonly weighed around 6 to 9 tonnes. Next to a 175 cm adult, the difference is not only height; it is also the animal's massive body length and overall volume.

Measurement note: T. rex comparisons can use hip height, raised-head estimated height, body length, or body mass. Choose the measurement type before making the chart.

Many mammoths are described with shoulder heights around 3 to 3.5 m. Compared with a 175 cm adult man, a 3.5 m shoulder height is exactly two adult heights.

That means an adult standing next to a large mammoth would reach only around the shoulder area. Add the head and tusks, and the full silhouette feels even larger.

Measurement note: mammoth size varies by species, sex, and individual. This chart uses shoulder height, not the full visual outline created by the head and tusks.

NBA listed Yao Ming at 7 ft 6 in, or about 2.29 m. LeBron James is listed at 6 ft 9 in, or about 2.06 m.

The listed height difference is 23 cm. In ratio terms, Yao Ming is about 1.11 times LeBron James's listed height. The gap is less than 1 ft, but it is very clear when both players stand on the same baseline.

Measurement note: this uses NBA listed heights, not a new barefoot measurement made for this chart.

Public profiles commonly list Lionel Messi at about 5 ft 7 in, or about 170 cm. Cristiano Ronaldo is commonly listed at 185 cm.

Using those listed heights, Ronaldo is about 15 cm taller than Messi. It is not as dramatic as the landmark or animal comparisons, but it is still easy to see when both players are placed on the same baseline.

Measurement note: athlete profile heights can vary by source and rounding convention. This section discusses listed height, not exact barefoot measurement.
